When Did We Become So Disposable...

Ok, so I know it has been a long time since I have had my feet in the dating pool. I mean you could probably find dinosaur fossils more recent than my last date. I am kidding, it hasn't been that long, although sometimes it may feel like it!

It is no secret for those of you who know me that I love my gadgets like my Iphone and my Ipad however, I am still very old fashioned. I would much rather hold an actual book than a kindle when reading, I would rather talk than text, and when writing it is so much more enjoyable putting pen to paper! I love classic rock, old school R&B, 80's, hairbands, and I am NOT a fan of remakes... the original is always better. I am a hopeless romantic that cries during movies, I am a believer of fate and meant to be, and definitely a fan of dating, getting to know someone and falling in love, or not. I guess it is no surprise that I am never gonna be that girl, the one to join an app and swipe the nearest random hottie for a public quickie! It surely isn't Domino's but it is STD delivery hot and ready in 30 minutes or less... no thanks!!

Now all throughout the history of, well... history, society has continued to fuel the ongoing war between man and woman. A battle that has raged on undefeated for centuries becoming burned into our brain and etched into our beliefs…

If a man goes out and beds many women then it is considered a conquest or a feat. He becomes a king of sorts among his fellow tribe or also referred to as bros or homies. The rest of the flock looks up to him as they celebrate with beers, high fives and the celebratory dance, also known as the chest bump… I am sure there is probably some belching and farting included in the mix somewhere.

However, if a woman lays down with many men, sometimes it does not even have to be many, she does not get a celebration. A woman cannot answer her phone, cannot leave her house, and in some cases not even leave her bed for her fellow tribe chimes in, even amongst larger groups outside of their circle, to shun her and in some cases brutally slut shame her.

Apparently now, instead of calling someone a tramp (if it walks like a duck…) you know what I am saying… but wait! Awe, someone broke her heart and she is hurting. Suddenly there are hugs, finger snapping, hair whipping, and someone that shouts, “Go on girl, get ya some of that!” because society has made this new rule that makes it ok for everyone… the only way to get over one is to get under another… what the, wait what??!!

What ever happened to your ratted mess of hair in a ponytail, your oldest and most comfy sweat pants with holes (usually the ones the ex left behind), a romantically sad movie, kleenex, that humungo gallon of ice cream complete with the scooper because the spoon is just too small, and the mascara that has ran all over your face so you walk around looking like Alice Cooper for an entire week or two. What ever happened to that hot mess?

I have never been, nor will I ever be a one night stand… I have said it before and I will say it again! Therefore I am not the type of person that would get under another… I will take my dignity and the Alice Cooper look for five hundred Alex!

And please don’t send me hate mail and nasty comments. You are who you are, and you know who or what you are. Only you can make your own decisions, and if you can sleep peacefully at night then good for you, but if you can’t then perhaps you need to quit following the latest trends and stay true to yourself. The old saying goes, if everyone was jumping off the bridge would you do it to, well would you?

Personally for me, I will not belittle myself to feed society’s pressures when I know I am worth so much more! This is what is wrong with the world today, too many people settle for less than they deserve. There is no more values, morals, or patience... it is greed because people have to have whatever they set their sites on right now and make it snappy.

It is a cold cold world where nobody fights for love or their beliefs anymore, it is pure laziness to instead of putting forth any effort people get thrown aside like a piece of trash.

What ever happened to having a heart, having compassion and when did we become so disposable?
